I admit, when I first read about these I was skeptical about the claims of their being multiple colors of flowers on 1 plant, but it couldn't be more true. The first time I saw one in all its glory blooming like a rainbow at a garden center, I immediately fell in love have been obsessed since :)Not only do they have multiple colors of flowers on 1 plant, the variation in the shades they come in is incredible. The blooms can be anywhere from white to cream, soft buttery yellow to a bright school bus yellow, so on. They come in every shade of pink, red, orange, purple that there is, often in stunningly gorgeous dreamy tropical sunset tones, some are even have streaks on the petals or fades. Each is unique just as beautiful as the next! The blooms go through some wonderful color changes too. From my experience, those that start out a blazing red will slowly fade to a delicious raspberry color the other colors do magic too. They really put on quite a show. They have a very long bloom time with each flower lasting weeks (they are an excellent cut flower!) new blossoms opening regularly. Cheyenne Spirit was bred to have more branches than a standard coneflower, so there are even more blooms. The flowering period lasts a good 2 months, mine have gone on longer until the freezes become too much. Mine have multiplied nicely each year too I couldn't be more thrilled! Cheyenne Spirit even blooms the first year from seed, woo hoo! I should also mention that it is an AAS Winner as well as a FleuroSelect Gold Award Winner.The large 3 - 4 showy flowers of the Coneflower will attract bees, birds, butterflies. In fall when the flowers go to seed I often see Finches, Sparrows, and other birds perched right on top enjoying their favorite seed snack. It is a delight to watch! Echinacea is also coveted for its herbal properties.
