Puerto Rican Vining Black Beans - Vigna unguiculata - These seeds originally came from Jerra's Garden, and I am honored to offer them here. Puerto Rican Vining Black beans excel during the long hot humid growing season of Florida's summer. They have a very high disease and pest resistance, and thrive during occasional droughts and deluges. They were basically ignored over the entire summer, yet they still produced loads of very long cowpea-style pods full of numerous black beans. They honestly required zero effort! This long-lived annual crop will die once the cold arrives, but not before providing several flushes of harvestable beans meant for drying or shelling. This is by far the best bean cultivar I have ever grown due to heavy pod growth and numerous beans per pod. It is a must for those looking to add edible plants to their permaculture or food-forest type setups. It is important to note that Puerto Rican black beans are daylight sensitive, meaning they are triggered to start flowering and producing beans once the daylight hours start to diminish. Plant these beans after all chances of frost are past, and allow the the vine to grow strong over the summer. Give it plenty of room.
